A server is a space on the internet where the website or in this case games, are located. So you get to play all of these video games because of a gaming server. Without that server, there would be no games. You will have not only a wider variety of games to play but also a wider variety of people to play against.
Game server hosting is the next thing to know about. Each of the games has to be somewhere on the internet. As we said, it's on a server. However, that server belongs to someone. That someone is the host. So game server hosting means that someone is putting a game server on their website. They are allowing it to use their space online. If you have a server, you could become a host as well. Then you could allow others to put games on your server so that others could play. These games can be free or charged. And you could also make money by charging the people who are putting the game on your server a set fee.
If you play games online, it opens up an even bigger variety of games that are available. You will have the thousands that you probably already play on a console at home. You will also have thousands more that are available online through a game server and the host who allows them to use that space. Some of these games may cost money however; there are many out there that are completely free. So you will be able to play new games against brand new opponents around the world simply by using game servers.
